Meet Solis! Superior Quality and Extremely Underrated
Solis of Switzerland was founded in 1908 by Dr. W. Schaufelberger. Similar to other Swiss brands Solis is rooted in the manufacturing of other home products, not just coffee machines. In this case Solis created a ground-breaking hair dryer around 1933 and was eventually sold around the world.
In 1983, Willi A. Nauer (former CEO) purchased Solis and two years later launched their first fully automatic espresso machine for household use. The units grew extremely popular and sold over a million units to this day.
What makes these machines unique for their extremely competitive price point is every machine is equipped with a marine brass boiler which deliver 19 bars pressure (most other machine are around 15). All models have a 3L water reservoir (most other are around 1.9L), they are equipped with built in tampers, one or two cup dispensing units, metal housing, end of cycle cut off switched and warming plates. Typically a consumer would only find these features in machines above the $2,500 price range.
Today, Willi’s son, Thomas Nauer is the current CEO and took over as of 2013. Staying true to their roots all of the Solis R&D and production are still located in the Swiss town of Ticino and are distributed to more than 40 countries around the world.
36 years after launching their first coffee machine Solis still delivers a superior product that produces consistent results to the user and is one of our favourites!
